----------------------------------------------
We started the day with a
delicious breakfast between guides and youth guides to await the kids full of
energy.
When they arrived, the same as
everyday, we did a vocal and body warm up led by Vicky. After we talked about
what we did yesterday. Next we went into theater classes, they way had been
planned. The theme for today was
improvisation: the group was split into three, led by Fer, Vicky y Neyli. I had to assist Victoria, she made groups of
two and they told each other their life story, what they like to do, what they
do not like to do, etc. After they each shared with the group their partner’s
story. During this exercise kids
remained calm, entertained and interested. The purpose of this exercise is to
relax, get to know each other, and get a
bit more loose when the time to talk in public arrives.
After guides rotated through each
group, I had to assist Fernando, he asked his gropu who was afraid of acting,
who was not and why? We exchanged ideas, in general the kids that said that did
not like to act said that they were afraid of being laugh at or making a fool
of themselves, etc. Fernando then told them that he is a professional clown,
and as a clown his life is about making people laugh, since the time he comes
in till the time he leaves the stage people laugh with him. He then went to explain that being ashamed
does not work and it is not constructive, he also mentioned the importance of
theater to entertain, express and free ourselves. He motivated them telling
them about the play we are putting up.
Kids showed interest and were participating. Once this group was done, Norma (another
youth guide) and I were in charge of helping the kids work on an improvisation
based on the three Cs.
After a few minutes, all the
groups shared their work. It was so much fun, we could hear a lot of laughs and
very interesting ideas by the kids after each sketch. The majority of children managed
to overcome fear and managed to
enjoy the improvisation with the other kids.
Later came the time of
lunch, before moving on to the fine arts, we
recycled containers that are
being used for different animals that are built with plastic,
which are then painted and eventually
will be used for the final work. I worked with Norma, was a beautiful class
all very calm, excited
and focused.
Another group went to do photography led by Edel,
Ale and Citlali.
The children learned with them a new photographic technique with digital camera using a flashlight to illuminate each other. The kids got to see how the light hits them in order to create an image, giving a certain time, depending on what the student wanted to create, there were multiple exposures, two or three images or up to four in the same shot, and determined the time and the amount of light reflected in his companion understanding the meaning of the word photography.

We also discovered that
there is a way to create a camera
obscura with recycled materials
for pin hole photography, an ancient technique, crafty and inexpensive.
The children were very excited, because they understood the meaning of what is photography and were surprised with the process, which they saw for the first time.
Then we showed the children 2 stop motions that had been done with the photos they took yesterday, children were so happy and excited, after we showed a video that used the same technique and it was about the invasion of technology in nature .

Finally, we got back to
the same groups that had made
the improvisations and were asked to remember the feedback they got
to improve the sketches. We finished with a short relaxation exercise and greeted everyone
in the circle.
Today was very productive day, the kids were excited and it is gratifying to see how they assimilate all the information we are passing on to them. The three Cs, the value of respect, teamwork and the importance of seeing nature as our home, the earth as our mother, etc..

full of expectations for what is to come.
